อีสาน หรือ ภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของไทย เป็นดินแดนแห่งประวัติศาสตร์อารยะธรรมโดยได้รับวัฒธรรมจากขอมหรือเขมรซึ่งอยู่ทางทิศใต้ และวัฒนธรรมจากลาวซึ่งขนาบอยู่ทางทิศเหนือและตะวันออก ร่องรอยแห่งประวัติศาตร์ยังมีให้ศึกษาเรียนรู้จากปราสาทหินและการขุดค้นพบโครงกระดูกมนุษย์โบราณ กระจายอยู่ตามจุดต่าง ๆ ของภาค ที่ราบสูงแห่งลุ่มแม่น้ำมูลกับแม่น้ำชีนี้ยังเป็นแหล่งสร้างผลผลิตทางเกษตรกรรมที่สำคัญ ได้แก่ข้าวและพืชผักอื่น ๆ แม้ปัจจุบันความเจริญและการเปลี่ยนแปลงจากอิทธิพลเมืองจะมาถึงก็ยังสามารถพบเห็นชีวิตความเป็นอยู่อย่างใกล้ชิดธรรมชาติได้ทั่วไปในชนบทของอีสาน ภาษาอังกฤษ (ENGLISH) Isaan is the northeastern region of Thailand. It is located on the Khorat Plateau, bordered by the Mekong River (along the border with Laos) to the north and east, by Cambodia to the southeast and the Prachinburi mountains south of Nakhon Ratchasima. ภาษาฝรั่งเศส (Français): La région Isaan correspond au nord-est de la Thaïlande. Elle commence à Nakhon Ratchasima et s'étend jusqu'au Mékong, bordée par le Cambodge à l'est et le Laos au nord.
