Chaweng beach, Koh Samui
The most popular area with tourists is Chewang beach, which is by far the biggest town on Koh Samui. The beach is approximately 7 km long with powdery white sand. Not far from the beach, there are two small islands near the reef. After swimming, you can explore the nearest one by walking through shallow water or go for snorkeling and kayaking at the second island which is further out and larger. The beach is very nice and attracts many travelers but mostly people stay there for the night life. There are hundreds of restaurants, bars and discos which cater for every taste. Consequently there are many girls working in this area as well.
The central part of the beach is a bit more crowded than the quieter north. Many beach sellers patrolling the beach, selling ice creams, fresh fruit, grilled sweet corn or chicken and Thai papaya salad, cold drinks, sarongs, jewellery , a variety of local crafts and Thai souvenirs are also available. Chaweng also has Thai massage available along the beach. Most of the beach masseurs offer Thai and oil massages, as well as aloe vera body wraps, henna tattoos, manicures and hair braiding.

How to get around
The taxi’s are to be avoided if possible, as they refuse to use their meters and are well known for over charging the tourists. There are small buses called Songthaows which run all over the island and is the best way to get around. Motorbike and car rentals can be found in all the tourist areas and usually cost about 200-3000 Baht/day for a bike and 800-2,000 Baht/day for a car. Big bikes can also be found in Chaweng.
